I've always collected images, words, music that inspire, dazzle, or simply touch something inside of me - I think that's beauty.... (where was tumblr when I was growing up!)

Compassion for a brother

Many posts I saw this week on PSH’s death were judgmental.  Those who are not “sorry” for him.  I’m not sorry for him either, but I have I have compassion for an addict.  Who amongst us has not turned to SOMETHING for comfort in our pain.  How many would die if “chocolate” could be overdosed on.  How many give it up and come running back as he came back to the deadly needle.  It’s easier to judge something so dangerous.  But the need to soothe the pain, to quiet the inner voices, is the same.  We just choose different opiates.  Shopping, Gambling, Sex, Alcohol, Food, nicotine, caffeine take your pick.  We all have a drug of choice that takes the edge off.  Or maybe you’re one of those that has it all figured out - lucky you.  Don’t feel sorry for him, but understand that addiction isn’t something you just quit doing and never do again.  Some just hop from one to a new one.  Some make it, some don’t.  Survival of the fittest.  He knew he was weak, but that his visibility could save the lives of others.   So I have compassion for a fellow human being, and realize that there for the grace of god, go I.

"The night sky is not lit up by one star, but by the billions of stars. Shine bright Black girls….Be bold. Be bright. Be blessed."

Just a few black girls/women who blew me away in 2013. I can’t wait to see what 2014 holds for them, for us, and for all Women of Color.

So this is tear-worthy and smile-worthy and hope-worthy; exquisite.
